Personal Branding vs Headshots – What Is The Difference?
Personal branding is becoming a popular term these days. But what is it and how does it relate to photoshoots? Are headshots and personal branding the same thing?
A headshot is the perfect way to make the right first impression. Usually shows the subjects head and shoulders, while looking direct to camera. They are ideal for LinkedIn profiles, company websites, press releases or guest speaker bios. But that’s about all a headshot is. You simply cannot market your business with just that! By incorporating different settings and elements into the shots, it starts to tell a story and becomes a personal branding shoot.
Personal branding is the process of marketing yourself as a brand. Instead of promoting a business name and logo, you give people the chance to get to know the person (or people) behind the products and services. Personal brands are designed to build trust by placing an emphasis on authenticity. Showing the behind the scenes of your business through professional photographs is an excellent way to tell your story both online and offline. They showcase your day-to-day activities, personality, and working environment. They can also include actual shots of your products and services to complete the story.
When planning your shoot, it is important to take logos, colours, and your personal style into consideration. You want your images to fit in and be consistent with the look and feel of your website and social media profiles. Creating a Pinterest board is always a great place to start when planning a personal branding shoot.
So yes, there is a big difference between headshots and a personal brand shoot. Both are important for your business, but for anyone who has a professional career, is a freelancer, entrepreneur, or influencer, whether they promote products or services, personal brand photos are a must.
For those who would like to update their headshot, I have a headshot day on Monday 22nd May at Kingsway House in Worcester. You can book via the link below. If you feel that now is the right time to think about a brand shoot, drop me a message and we can have more of a chat about what’s involved.
